Vocal scholars have the option to participate in a conducting workshop led by Maestro David Hill. This is a rare opportunity for conductors of all skill levels (or aspiring conductors) to gain practical experience leading an excerpt of the week’s repertoire.

Soprano Jolle Greenleaf is one of today’s foremost figures in the field of early music. She has been hailed by The New York Times as a “golden soprano” and “a major force in the New York early music-scene.” Ms. Greenleaf was named the artistic director of Tenet Vocal Artists in 2009, where she sings and directs the ensemble in repertoire spanning the Middle Ages to the present day. Her flair for imaginative programming has been lauded as “adventurous and expressive,” and “smart, varied and not entirely early” (The New York Times).  She is a celebrated interpreter of the music of Bach, Buxtehude, Handel, Purcell and, most notably, Claudio Monteverdi. Ms. Greenleaf has performed as a soloist in venues throughout the U.S., Scandinavia, Europe, and Central America for exceptional presenters including Vancouver Early Music Festival, Denmark’s Vendsyssel Festival, Cambridge Early Music Festival, Costa Rica International Music Festival, Puerto Rico’s Festival Casals, Utrecht Festival, at Panama’s National Theater, and San Cristobal, the Cathedral in Havana, Cuba.

Sherezade Panthaki, soprano, enjoys ongoing international collaborations with conductors Nicholas McGegan, Masaaki Suzuki, Stephen Stubbs, Nicholas Kraemer, James O’Donnell and more. Combining “her full, luxuriously toned upper range” (The Los Angeles Times) and “astonishing coloratura with radiant top notes” (Calgary Herald) with her signature stylish creativity and historically informed performance practice, she is renowned for her interpretations of Bach, Handel, dozens of early music oratorios, operas, and cantatas, as well as numerous modern world premieres. Recent engagements include performances with the New York Philharmonic, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Bach Collegium Japan, Wiener Akademie (Austria), NDR Hannover Radiophilharmonie (Germany), the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Boston Early Music Festival, and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Canada). Born and raised in India, Ms. Panthaki holds graduate degrees from the Yale School of Music and the University of Illinois. She is a founding member of the Kaleidoscope Vocal Ensemble, presenting vocal excellence alongside arts education and social justice. Ms. Panthaki is a highly sought-after clinician, has taught voice at Yale University, and currently heads the Vocal program at Mount Holyoke College.

Ogontz Choral Workshop Vocal Scholars attend on full scholarship, which includes tuition, music rental, and room and board for the week.

Individuals who wish to be considered for the program must either be currently enrolled in a college, university, or conservatory music program OR working as a music teacher in a public or private school or university, college, or conservatory. Students who have been accepted for the upcoming academic year are eligible. Recent graduates within two years of completing their degree are also eligible.

Returning participants are not required to submit a letter of recommendation.
